This site in Glenhuntly Road provided opportunities for a genuine mixed use development comprising retail at street level, residential units above and car parking below. Retailplan were asked to come up with an efficient retail and residential option which optimised the site potential.
Key challenges included the formulation of a sensible and economic vertical transportation arrangement, the creation of well planned residential apartments, and an appropriate layout for supermarket loading while allowing easy customer car access to the car park.
5 levels of apartments sit above the supermarket. Each floor has 12 apartments, all with generous balconies. Two levels of car parking lie below the ground floor. Basement 1 holds supermarket customer cars, while basement 2 is dedicated to residents parking. Separate lobbies exist for supermarket and residential, but the vertical transportation is consolidated for reasons of financial economy and effective space utilisation.
